
When timing the cam on a Y-Block V8 it is important to note the procedure is different than most other V8s. Instead of simply lining the dots on the cam sprocket and crank sprocket, you must count twelve pins on the timing chain between the two dots on the sprockets, as illustrated above. The early Ford
OHV six cylinder engines, 215ci, 223ci, and 262ci are also timed in this manner.
The Lincoln and HD truck Y-blocks are timed in this manner (279, 302, 332).t
